Big Sing 2022

In 2022 Big Sing McLaren Vale presented The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins, conducted by Carl Crossin OAM and presented with The Armed Man Film on Sunday 31 July at 3 pm at Tatachilla Lutheran College Stadium, McLaren Vale.

We’re now proud to release the video of the full 90 minute performance at Tatachilla. It will be available for viewing until March 2023.

The Advertiser had this to say: “The Armed Man makes a political, as well as a musical, statement, written as it was in the shadow of the Kosovo War. And in this full form, it does so in spades. Think, friends, of Ukraine.
It can hardly be more strongly recommended.”
 Peter Burdon

The Big Sing Chorus—‘a choir for all voices’—brought to life a collaboration between amateur choristers and South Australia’s finest music education institutions, and celebrates a multi-generational merging of voices, with students and adults of all ages and abilities. Soloists included ‘the Pakistani Pavarotti’, Farhan Shah singing the Call to Prayers and young soprano Max Junge.

The massed choir of nearly 300 singers—the biggest chorus in the history of Big Sing—was joined by the Elder Conservatorium Chorale and the choirs of Brighton and Marryatville High School Special Music Centres.

The 80-piece symphony orchestra boasted talented students from the two High Schools, together with professional and semi-professional players and mentors.

The addition of The Armed Man Film (a first for an Australian performance), made for a powerful and moving experience for the capacity audience. The most common response was “Stunning!”

We also facilitated the core groups’ subsequent performances in the AdelaideTown Hall with assistance from the City of Adelaide.

These performances of The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins are given by permission of Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd exclusive agent for Boosey & Hawkes Music Publisher Ltd of London.

The Big Sing Team is now busy planning Big Sing 2023 and would love you to join the chorus for if you are able.
Look out for news towards the end of this year.
