You will need to purchase a vocal score if you don’t have one already, or source an official version. The Armed Man is subject to copyright and photocopies are not possible. All choristers will need to perform from the official score, without folders. If you don’t yet have a score, email Greg John – we may have a few spares. Email

Marked Score: Carl Crossin’s Conductor’s marked score is now available for download – please mark your own score (in pencil) ready for the first rehearsal with Carl and bring a pencil and eraser. We are assured that if you don’t know what some of the markings mean, Carl will make it clear at the first rehearsal on July 27th.

Learning Tracks

Learning tracks are available for purchase at Choraline. You will need to create a login to use the website and the learning tracks for individual parts cost $18.88 each. You can listen to extended samples on YouTube (which are much better than the short ones on the website) before you buy. Each learning track has the voice part enhanced by a wind instrument. The orchestra parts are played by an organ. Tracks with a singer are available for Sops and Altos only.

Extended samples to try before you buy on YouTube for soprano, alto, tenor, bass

We have also sourced the following tracks from which we have converted to mp3 files.

Suggested Listening on YouTube

Concert pour la Liberté, June 2014

Vocale Neuburg (Sanctus)

Mechels Kathedraalkoor (Benedictus)

Concert Dress, Folders and Masks

Concert dress is all black (including jackets/jumpers if the weather is cold—the stadium is not air conditioned). Change rooms are available if needed.

UPDATE: Mindful of the current situation with the pandemic, Big Sing McLaren Vale, in consultation with our collaborators, have determined the following:

Masks will be required for all combined rehearsals (from Wednesday 27 July onwards)

Masks will not be required for the performance but you may wear one if you wish (black is preferable)

We ask that you take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) the day before the performance. If you either test positive or are unwell in any way, we ask that you stay at home. Please let us know so we can adjust the seating arrangements.  We can refund your fee if you wish.

We will have a supply of black medical face masks level 3 (Ozguard) available on performance day. As we all have the same official score, we will not be using folders.

Seating for Choristers

If you have mobility issues you will be able to remain at ground level if you wish. Please contact Greg John prior on 0405 053 331 or

Registration for the Big Sing Chorus

Registrations have now officially closed for the chorus as we reached our capacity of 300—our largest chorus ever! However, if you have an official score, there are now a few places left as some registrants have indicated they are no longer able to participate. We can accept a few more choristers through the booking site. If you have registered, note that your fee of $50 includes the 3 mandatory rehearsals and the performance. We expect that all registered choristers can commit to the mandatory schedule. Payment of the registration fee indicates your agreement to the Big Sing McLaren Vale Terms and Conditions.
